  10. I do know that they do follow this newsgroup. I have a very slow modem
  11. and a long-distance call so I can't download the entire newsgroup and stay
  12. solvent...

  18. I've recently aquired Final Writer (Lite)▓ from the Amiga Format coverdisk,
  19. after having used WW from the Desktop Dynamite Pack, and more recently
  20. PageStream2 (perhaps overkill for simple letters :) and I must say it is an
  21. excellent program!

  23. I'm _very_ tempted to upgrade to the full version (ie _full_ FW4) of the
  24. program, (this would be a true honour: it would be the first non-coverdisk 
  25. program I've bought!) but I'd like to make a few comments/suggestions/queries.

  28. case I'm sorry:

  31. The Amiga Format registration offers a very good deal on full FW4 Lite
  32. (cheaper than RRP). Is a similar discount also available on an upgrade to FW4?

  34. Unfortunately, FW4 Lite doesn't appear to work with MagicMenus (v1.29). I find
  35. this program almost essential (certainly if using MUI3 apps) and would like to
  36. ask if this "bug" if present in either full FW4 Lite or FW4, or if a patch is
  37. available? This is a major irritation :(

  39. I have had problems saving files to T: on the RAM drive (ie when needing a
  40. temporary ASCII copy), with "Could not save file. Not enough disk space."
  41. error messages (certainly not true).

  43. I've also had a few problems with "file open errors" (-> guru) on trying to
  44. reopen some files previously saved on DiskSpare floppies while running
  45. FastCache (possibly a FastCache error?).

  47. I have a Canon BJ-10 printer (using Wolf Faust's CanonDisk driver) and 
  48. sheet-feeder but find that printouts from FW always seem to start far too 
  49. close to the top of the page and finish well above the bottom. What page
  50. margins and "printer type" (DeskJet, Laser etc) should I use to solve this?

  53. Does the full FW4 Lite allow import of non-ILBM images (particularly TIFF,
  54. structured or PS images) or is this feature only in FW4?

  56. What file formats can FW4 handle? I would very much appreciate the ability to
  57. handle RTF and <sigh> Word documents for transfer to Uni.

  59. Does full FW4 Lite have an ARexx port, or only FW4?
  60. I've heard great things about what you can do with FW's ARexx port!

  62. Is it possible to define buttons for small-caps and all-caps in FW4 Lite or
  63. FW4? I find this a slightly annoying omission, but that's just my formatting
  64. style... ;^)

  67. Some suggestions, but don't feel I'm knocking what is an excellent program!

  69. I would prefer that the program used standard or ReqTools file requesters
  70. (as I have many assigns on my HD and the inability to stretch the window to
  71. match is quite annoying). However, I do like the default-option return-key
  72. which appears on the other requesters! It would seem sensible to follow this
  73. with other hotkeys on requesters (ie Y for yes, N for no, etc). For some
  74. reason, I also find that tab-to-next-gadget seems to work in reverse (ie
  75. tab-to-prev-gadget, shift-tab-to-next-gadget).

  77. I would prefer a standard font-requester: my fonts are (deliberately) in
  78. several places on my HD but are all in the FONTS: path, so tracking them down
  79. is a little tricky with this selection method!

  81. I would like the ability to select the screen font or a smaller font size. I
  82. run the program in Multiscan Productivity as DBLPAL HiRes NoFlicker _is_ a
  83. little flickery, and NTSC too restricting vertically. Unfortunately, even the
  84. Multiscan screen loses a lot of space to the various tool gadgets. A smaller
  85. font for the title bars and toolbars would free up a little more vertical
  86. space.

  88. Likewise with the useful click tabs, I feel they are a little too large. The
  89. option to show section tabs _only_ would be useful (again to save space). Page
  90. up/down could be done from the scrollbar or info bar in this case.

  92. Could I suggest that the date and time and position be added to the menu bar
  93. or window title bar, and so getting rid of the information bar (page up/down
  94. could be selected from a user-defined toolbar). (saves space again)

  96. Alternatively, it might be useful to have invisible toolbars (like (excuse
  97. me) the Windows95 taskbar which can be configured to be invisible at the
  98. bottom of the screen and only pops-up when you move the mouse to it╣). This
  99. would strike me as a very sensible option as you need any toolbar far less
  100. frequently than you type text and I prefer to have as much of the document
  101. context visible on-screen as possible while typing.
  102. [This seems such a good idea that I hereby copyright its usage for toolbars
  103. within applications, 9 March 1996 (unless Microsoft's getting there first
  104. prevents this :( )]

  110. I'd particularly like to know if there is a special upgrade price to FW4 for
  111. Final Writer (Lite)▓ owners, as I suspect that FW4 may better meet my needs
  112. than FW4 Lite.
